Iron removers are designed to chemically decontaminate wheels, paintwork and glass which have embedded iron deposits. The new generation wheel cleaners contain the same chemicals which usually turn a reddish purple colour upon contact with any iron or ferrous metal deposits, dissolving the particles for safe removal. Sometimes several applications are needed.

Whilst these chemicals have an undesirable odour they are very effective and are quite harmless.
